Action: Home Safe Campaign
I wish to launch a student led group who simply look out for students practical needs on student nights out. A few ideas of the kind of things we could offer students during nights out are as follows:
· Free water bottles which reduce the risk of a hangover and help students get up for the 9am lecture!
· ‘Spikeys’ which are placed in the tops of bottles to prevent drinks getting spiked.
· Flip flops for girls who take off high heeled shoes for the walk home.
· Space blankets for people who are extremely cold.
· Basic First aid through working with trained Street Pastors.
· Helping fresher’s get home by providing them with directions back to halls, maps and taxi phone numbers.
· Information of where to access welfare help from the University and Students Union.
Those are just a few ideas! It would be great to launch it at the university's May Ball and put on tea and toast for students on their way home. www.safetytext.co.uk is a great website which would be great to get students home safely. I would like to produce a leaflet promoting the campaign and with helpful, practical advice on how to get home safely after a night out and also where to access more help from the university and students union.
It would be great to hear if anyone else has started anything similar, and some advice on how to move forward would be useful! Are there students who would be greatful for a group like this?
