Status Parent Idea: self harm distraction box read

Date created: 05 Feb 2012 I would like to give young people who self harm a helping hand by giving them a small distraction box full of cool stuff to prevent them from self harming in Northamptonshire with the possibility to go nationwide.The box will be posted to them so i will need the name and address and sex . But i know how hard it is to say you self harm so it will be posted with complete confidentiality.

  • Avatar gillian64 14:40, 23 April 2012 heya, just became a fan.. this is a brilliant idea. someone in my family has had problems with self harm. One thing that helped was drawing and just being creative it was another way to release the worries and thoughts they wee thinking. Also have you heard of the elastic band theory or the "burning thought" (think thats what it called i'll double check) well elastic is were the individual has a band on their arm or is holding it and whenever they feel down or bad thoughts come they simply focus that thought while pinging the band against their skin, low pain and very effective; the burning though is when the individual has a thought that has came into their mind and they focus it by imagaining writing it down then simply burning it away, you can do it literally but it is a psychological method and alot safer :)
