I love pantomime's and wish they could be an all year round event... Wait they can!!
I would like to set up a Norfolk based Touring Pantomime company. The company would tour school, youth clubs etc. The company would also be available for general hire, and tour Norfolk.
They say start small, and that's just what I want do, the company would potentially expand to other regions in the UK,... more
Action: Cinderella: The Biggest Ball Of Them All.
City College Norwich have given permission to work with students within the college to produce *magic productions* first show!
The show will be performed in the colleges nursery to young children, it will last approximately 30 minutes (but this will be adaptable for future performances, and depending on the audience.)
The performance will be recorded, and then sent to funders with applications.
Depending on the success of the performance, the show will tour local schools etc. (After a vigorous audition process.)

This is such great news. You must be very excited! Do you have a rough idea of when the show is going to take place?
For this performance, do you know how you're going to cover the cost of putting the show on? I'm sure you would be able to apply to somewhere like o2 Think Big to cover the cost of this as you would be able to get up to £300 or Live UnLtd. If you need any help applying just let me know. The fact you already have a college interested will really help with an application.
Good Luck with the planning, give me a shout if you need any help or have any questions.

In terms of set etc. I'm working with my friend who's really good with graphics and things, and he's going to help me do some quite amazing things with projectors, and a suspended table cloth.
I'm going to apply for any funding i can get though, as it will help fund a tour, and transport for anything used as i can't drive, which is a big downfall!
In terms of venues, schools, youth clubs etc. are willing to pay £200+ for a company like this to visit them, so all costs will be covered, obviously a price would be worked out to ensure actors are paid. (Actors will also be involved behind the scenes to reduce costs.)
Making costumes and things will be difficult on a tight budget, but Priscilla Queen Of The Dessert (really cheesey example.) proved anything is possible with a little initiative.

I like sound of using graphics and a table cloth to provide the background set - sounds very creative.
Regarding paying actors, I'm not sure that is something you'll need to do. You could organise this as a voluntary project and get local people who are interested the opportunity to take art. Any money you then make from the project can be reinvested and pay towards future shows. You may find that if you apply for funding and say that you're going to paying for actors they probably won't give you the money. You can always ring the funder up before you apply though to have a chat through it with them and see what they will and won't fund.

I haven't thought about having the company operate on a voluntary basis, the only thing with that is commitment, they may not see the incentive to commit full time. Report Abuse
You may also be interesting in applying for this TV Series where you can get funding and support from the guy who set up Innocent:
