Status Parent Idea: Food for thought! read

Date created: 05 Nov 2008 The idea is to raise global food issues to kids in secondary school (Yr 7-9). It is not about your 5-a-day or how to cook. Instead, we will be looking at political, economic and moral issues relating to food and the production of it.

We are going to produce a short animated film on the topic, to be shown during the session with the class.

A short summary:
1. FARMING
2. FACTORIES
3. TRANSPORT... more

Action: We need you!!

We need confident people to go into local secondary schools and run sessions with kids (Yr7-9). Don't be alarmed!! All the hard work has been done for you...

These sessions will be based on a 15-20 min long film which will have all the information you will need. The volunteer will show this film to the class and then have a short discussion with the kids. The idea here is to basically see what they think about the issues raised in the film.

WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO
- Show the film (15-20 mins)
- Ask what the kids thought about the film (5-10 mins)
- Give them pre-organised games to do in groups (20 mins)
- Give kids the packs containing leaflets, badges and posters amongst other things.

There is an opportunity to make this session your own if you so wished (to be discussed before hand). If you would be more comfortable following the structure laid out then thats fine too!
