DAY 1

The first day was better than I expected, this was only because out of the 101 million families that I invited, I assumed only five would turn up, but nine was a positive start. The kids were well behaved (much to my surprise!) and very interactive in the lessons. I managed to get the whole of my immediate family to come support me on the first day; my dad was teaching the lesson, my mum taught the kids a nursery ryhme 'if your happy and you know it...' and the kids loved it, while my brother (19) helped organise the class notes and keeping the kids well behaved. One thing that did surprise me was that these kids knew more words in the Oromo language than I did at their age, and some could actually formulate a sentence in Oromo when given a Oromo word. It just goes to show that I underestimated the aptitude of these kids and the extent of their bilinguality, I guess from next week onwards I have to bring a more challenging curriculum!

We've been hearing lots about the project, and it's great to see how the work's finally paying off. Congratulations, and good luck with further sessions.

Congratulations on the 1st class! It's fantastic that your project is now up and running, you've done so well with planning and organising it so its great to see it in action now. I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday to order some books for the project.

Also, anyone reading the blog who wants to find out more about the project can see Aduu' s original idea in on the following link http://www.junction49.co.uk/chapel/article950.html.
