Why care
It seems that filmmakers and advertising industries have ex-changed sexualised images for the representation and glorification of general violence. My partner is very aware of that, as he keeps changing the channel if the woman fails to show off her breasts on a sex scene and the screened-time is filled up, instead, by graphic images of the same woman been murdered or by her wounded and motionless body allowing camera to zoom-in and out of her ‘non-sexualised’ and bruised cavities.
My partner, however, is not the only one upset by these replacements of images and plots. Although feminist have done a great job in their attempts to de-objectify the female body, we still need to question the ways in which media industries attempt to capture the audience’s attention.
One thing is sure… People do not like the way violence is sensualised and exploited.
Although it seems difficult to find a way to entertain and promote societies to consume on massive scales other than through the use of sex and violence, I am sure media industries can find a way to balance out the spectacle of violence and sex with new and creative plots.
The story
This little piece of news surrounding guns and the current panic of gangs is quite interesting as it offers a glimpse on what people think of the way media promotes violence.http://uk.reuters.com/article/domesticNews/idUKL2138618120071122
This other link is an ad (fantastic if you asked me) that was banned... Quite a long time ago!
I wonder if the ad would be presented on the screens if the caption at the end were any different.
