I have some web and software development skills that I want to bring to a worthy charity; maybe even teaching people what I have learned. Who can I contact to be directed to an organisation who would make use of these skills? I live in Fife, Scotland.

I have found a lot of organisations asking for web designers in the sites mentioned in the 'orgs' section of the J49 Caves. For instance thesite.org mentioned there and timebank are just some examples. It will be a matter of selecting the right location or even selecting the ones that offer possitions working from home. as for me, I volunteer to learn from you via online.

It's great that you want to share your skills and put them to use in the charity sector. Are you interested primarily in volunteering your time or perhaps in working for an organisation as a web developer? If it's the latter then it's probably a good idea to join a specialist recruitment agency. I know that Reed and Third Sector let you search for charity jobs by area. IT recruitment specialists might also be able to help you.

If you're primarily interested in volunteering your time then it's probably a good idea to look for organisations based near you. This directory lists charities and not for profit organisations in Fife and you can search by category. It could be helpful to decide what kind of sector you'd like to work in and contact organisations directly to offer your help. People with web and software knowledge are always in demand so I bet people would be really accommodating!

There are charities that offer people IT training to develop their skills, so you could decide whether you'd like to work with an organisations staff or even directly with service users.

Thanks for taking the time to comment; your help is much appreciated. I will be contacting some charities after Christmas, to see if we can take on a project; preferably giving some deserving people a chance to look inside the technology too. For Dalaigh; I am currently studying ASP.NET in VB, and SQL Server Express; I have some work experience in producing applications in Access, and love to build databases. I think my strengths are in accurately interpreting user requirements, designing and building good applications. I think I am particularly strong in building rapid database apps using Visual Web Developer - mind you, I'm still learning! Sorry it took so long to reply, but my last reply was posted but hasn't appeared for some reason.
