The story

05 May 2008

It's the first anniversary of our Give a Little Time campaign, in which we have teamed up with Volunteering Notts to find thousands more volunteers for good causes around the county.

Today we tell the story of Nottingham Trent University law student Alex Simmonds, who has given countless hours to a cause not everyone will have sympathy with.

But in helping to prepare prisoners for employment once they are released, Alex is doing something of real value for all who are determined to make use of his expertise.

Furthermore he has recruited and trained others to help in his pioneering work.

Prisons may not be for you, but there are countless other areas in which enthusiastic new volunteers can make a difference to their communities.

If you want to know more, the details are on Page 12 and 13.
