What it's all about

The BuXton Factor is a new entertainment event for the town (based on a well-known format!), organised by students from the University of Derby Buxton it was started by 2 students myself (sean) and Kirstye, and we teamed up with a member of the Students union member Marie Aldous.

What inspired me to carry out this project is that i see all around Buxton so much talent trhat can be taken further but they won't have the confidence to stand up and show what they can do, so i have come up with this project so they are able to progress and come forward for an oppurtunity to boost their confidence have fun and believe in themselves.

The BuXton factor was started in the Boilerhouse common room in October and we got in touch with Alex stackhouse to see what we would need to do too carry out and be able to make this project happen, to get thicgs started we made application forms and me and Kirstye spent hours at a time down the street in search for talent the amazing amount we got back was really moving that so many people are willing to try and show us what they have got.

we then noticed before we can carry out the auditions we had to have risk assesments and have a health and safety checks. every one contributed as much as they can and we passed and we got on with the auditions. we held the auditions almost every week up to December the 8th which was our last audtion date and there were loads thatb were succe3ssful and we all agreed on the right decision on who to keep and who to let go.
The final event is taking place on 11th February 2008 at the Buxton Opera House.

we have had both rehearsals and a dress rehearsal takes place on monday the 11th before the show at the buxton opera house.

The final show took place at the Buxton Opera house on Monday 11th February. Preperations for the show started at 9am. There was a crew of 64 back stage. Music students setting up the sound and lighting, the acts warming up etc...

There was an audience of close to 400 and over 2,000 raised for the nominated charities. Overall the night ran smoothly with all invoved thoroughly enjoying the experience.

We had two amazing winners the over 16 winner was Lucy Spraggen with her own rendition of Umbrella and the under 16's winner Maria Carr with Bleeding love by Leona Lewis was both a hit for the audience. The Judges voted for them in private in backstage and had help of the audience by making lots of noise.

in the intervals we had the University of Derby's music students band the purple cloud of funk playing old favourites of songs like ghostbusters and Maroon 5 she will be loved. which also made the audience get up and dance. the show finished with a dance by Britney Spears and piece of me remix.

the show was mentioned in the Buxton Advertiser mentioning that the show was a hit and they would love to have it annually or a christmas special.

and we wood like to thank uni of derby in buxton students for all the help Marie Aldous, the students union and junction 49 for all there help. and we would love it too take place again.
