What it's all about
The idea behind the L.J.M.U Cycing club was to set up a university club that would have no restrictions on members who join, a non-competitive side of the club where members who just want to enjoy the joys of cycling without competition being an issue. This is completely different to most of the sporting clubs which actively seek the best athletes therefore can scare many students that aren't confident in their abilities away from the 'university club scene.'The club however recognises the fact that there may be some members who wish to compete in cycling events and these members are also more than welcome to join and try to excel in their chosen field.
This initiative and drive by the club will hopefully tempt people to join become active cyclists and hence improve their fitness, well being and health for their ordinary day to day lives.
What's needed to make it a reality
The club has been in existence for a few years now but has only started to become the club it was originally designed to be. The club has organise several trips to differnet cycling centres around England and Wales. To transport members the club has to hire a van. To provide the high standard of cycling our members deserve the club has to travel lon distances to suitable centres and this can prove to be very expensive. The cost of van hire could be subsidised with a grant and would make more people be willing to attend as with most students budgeting is a constant battle during university and many members cannot afford to go each week. The approval of a grant would allow the club to subsidise the cost of trips. The club would also like to purchase a bicycle for the club so members who are not familiar with cycling can 'give it a go and see how much fun it is. The approval of a grant would make all of these initiatives possible.
Thank you,
From the L.J.M.U Cycling Club Committee
