What it's all about
Everyone likes to give. Everyone loves to receive. There’s a chance for you to do both at the NSCA Swap Shop.
Simply bring good quality clothes, shoes and accessories that you no longer have a use for and exchange it for something even better! You can even help the environment in the process by recycling your unwanted items, helping to reduce your carbon footprint!
A customisation stall is planned to help you to make it your own. Any leftover donations will go to charity. It is a chance to socialise with like-minded people and encourage you to think about what you have and never use.
What's needed to make it a reality
Publicising the event will be key, using leaflets on recycled paper, posters and hopefully 2 large banners to raise awareness of the event on both campuses. A stall will be set up during Volunteers Week to raise awareness of the impact clothes manufacturing and waste have on the environment, requiring materials and posters.
A large venue in a central location is available at a cost in the City Campus student's union. The bar will be open and music playing to create a party and social atmosphere. Security services will need to be present as per University protocol.
Transport costs will be minimal though we would like to provide the students on our Coach Lane campus the opportunity to donate by offering a collection service prior to the event, in case they have large amounts of clothes they cannot manage to bring in to town.
Decorations, customisation materials, 'changing rooms' and places to put the clothes, such as hanging rails, will be needed on the night.

Really like this idea, we did a similar thing at Bristol Uni, part swapping but also selling things off to raise money for development projects abroad
Since you're at Northumbria Uni and it's one of the unis Junction49's working with in partnership you can apply for up to £750 funding to run your project. Contact your volunteer support officer (Samantha)for access to funding, training and support.
Hope it goes well!
