What it's all about

Reinventing the streets: two street artists will transform different areas of Durham town with chalk drawing and paintwork. Everyone is invited to join in - all day volunteers will recruit members of the public to contribute to murals that will grow over the weekend. Every contributor will learn techniques from our artists and will contribute to an exciting and ongoing exhibition of community art.

This is an all inclusive and high visibility project that will give volunteers and opportunity to interact with the public, develop their artistic side and promote community spirit. The public too will have the opportunity to work alongside professional artists and promote feelings of community in Durham. Everyone can get involved!

What's needed to make it a reality

The workshop costs are fully budgeted by our artists, Urban Canvas. For the agreed fee they will cover the expense of materials and working methods and will be on hand to co-ordinate the event at all times. Once we have secured funding for the event they will design a concept for the project and set out how the concept will be put in place. All we need to provide is volunteers to contribute to the work and to get the public involved in the project!

  • Jo & Andy  The University of Durham reply 15 Feb 08 13:32,   by Jo & Andy Thanks for putting this idea online it looks like a great project. It was good to discuss this on Wednesday.
As you are a student at Durham, one of 15 universities working in partnership with Junction49, I as your Volunteer Support Officers (VSOs) can help you to access up to £750 of funding and offer you support throughout the development of a volunteering project!
I will contact you soon to discuss the funding budget.
