What it's all about

A day at the university campus for some ESL school students (refugees and asylum seekers)
Show students the student environment - get them to aspire to HE.
Have a day out in a different environment.
Educational element - tour of my department! Forensic labs.
Take them to the sports centre - show them more than just the academic side. Show them what the uni has to offer. We'd like to use the inflatables there for social interaction, in a non-threatening way, encourage team building - just good old fun!
Buy them a present to take away - a book each. To improve their reading skills, because they have ESL needs. More likely to read these books because they are associated with the trip.

What's needed to make it a reality

Transport
inflatable human table football and appropriate space at the centre for sport
refreshments
lab technician for science lab
Books for them to take away as souvenirs

Do you have contact with ESL students already?if not then is there a group that you plan to work with?

Because you are a student at UWE you can access up to £750 to turn your idea into a reality. UWE is one of 15 Universities who are taking part in the scheme where you can access funding, training and support from your Junction49 staff member (Jo) to help you get your project up and running.
