Cultural Awareness Fair

What it's all about

People with different ethnic background comes together to produce a fair. The fair would be separated into different rooms and these rooms would be designed to represent each country; every time some one walks into a different room they would feel as if they are in another country. These room would contain speciality foods from that country, games, items for sale and also information on the current country and its history. I feel that in orer for the public to go and see every room, there should be a map and every time they visit a room they would get a stamp on the card. If they have all of the stamps then they can place it into a box which then means that they are entered for a prize draw. Towards the end of the fair, there would be a small fashion show in which local schools and centers created and the prize would be announced.

What's needed to make it a reality

In order to get started, I would need to ask for space; either a hall or open area. Go and ask people from different backgrounds if they are interested (ask when the local group is having meeting) and also ask schools if they would be interested. The cost of this project is also an issue as the groups would need ingredients, fabric, and other materials.

    Welcome to Junction49!

Community and cultural awareness are issues that are becoming more and more important to people...and the more events to tackle this the better I reckon!

Community centres usually have space to offer for local events so you shouldn't have too much problem finding one - for example, I see you're in south east london so how about Woolwich Common Community Centre
    16 Leslie Smith Square, SE18 4DW
    Tel: 020 8855 2437

You might have trouble finding somewhere with lots of different rooms but somewhere where you can have lots of stalls for different groups would work just as well...

Do you have a list of countries/cultures you'd ideally like to be represented at your event?

As for funding check out the Awards for Bridging Cultures . Junction49 is also offering the chance to win some funding - check out the criteria here and add anything you think is relevent here as a comment!

If there's anything else we can help with just ask - Junction49 is here to help you turn your idea into reality... Very Happy

    Cheers,

    Zoë
