What it's all about
Myself and 4 other current Loughborough Students won a bid to be the Loughborough organising committee for the British University Snowsports Championships known as BUSC. Our first event is called the summer session. We are running a 40 person trip to Tignes a week after the end of term (a french resort with a world class glacier). The event is attended by students keen to develop their skiing however there is not the funding to really give the students the coaching they need and deserve. In addition, BUSC's mission for the year is to run a 'thinking environmentally' tagline under each event. Therefore we would love to print promotional materials on recyled paper, carry out waste separation at the event.
It is run by students, for students and we want to change the emphasis of the event to what the students need rather than what can be afforded.
What's needed to make it a reality
-We would love to have 2 proffessional coaches, one snowboard and one ski to run the week and train with the students. We have provided video cameras so they can watch and debrief the riders on their technique and really develop thier potential. The two coaches are nationally recognised and qualified to do the job. We have worked with them and because BUSC is non profit making student governing body they dropped their fees to £0 which is excellent news. I would love to take them but without support we cannot make the event more active and developemental for the students. However we would need to get them out there and simply pay for their accomodation and liftpass.
The cost breakdown per coach is:
£150 per return fllight
£202 per package
Toal cost of coaching for event: £704
The cost breakdown per environmental initiative is:
£50 additional cost of printing materials being recycled materials
£50 cost for waste separation bins that can be reused on all our other student events and in our office (based in Loughborough) next year.
