Idea description

After a friend of mine had her handbag stolen, I felt there was a big need for me to take action! Far to many too many people I know have been a victim of crime and I feel its high time that the young people living in our communities took a stand to help tackle the pressing issue of crime. I want to raise awareness of how vulnerable to crime people can be and fel that a way in which this could be done is starting a publicity campaign in my local area.

What stops me

There are a few things that are stopping be from fulfiling this idea such as:
~ time restraints
~ not really knowing where to begin
~ I haven't done much publicity work before

    Where do you live BTW?

  • Nick	  26 Mar 07 20:30,   by Nick Hi Binda, I like the sound of this as a way of helping people deal with crime. People often feel really on their own, and there is very little support for young people. Take a look at http://www.victimsupport.org/vs_england_wales/index.php.

Its not very inspiring or very youth friendly. Maybe something like this is a better example of how people could share experiences...http://postsecret.blogspot.com/

You could have somewhere where people affected by crime could share their experiences anonymously, and perhaps talk about what they might have done differently.

  • Ella  Staff reply 30 Mar 07 14:11,   by Ella Hi B - great idea for a project!

From your details I can see that you're a student. I know of a great project at The University of Central Lancaster called TOUCH which highlights crime issues to students - you could always give the co-ordinator of the project a ring and get some ideas and support, I know the guy that runs it and he's really helpful - I'll drop him a line and say that you may be calling.

Also, you could always speak to your welfare sabb at Uni - they might have a budget for this sort of thing.

Just wondering how your idea developed since you came up with it?
