What it's all about

I would like to set up a sports summer programme for secondary school children in Brent because when i was at school i found there was nothing to do during the holidays, which often made them long and boring. It's a great way of meeting other individuals and keeping healthy!

What's needed to make it a reality

What its all about?

I don't know who to contact or how to advertise the programme.

There is also something going on at the moment which might make life easier for you. All private schools in England have charitable status, but basically its a big con, cos don't have any social benefit. Sooo, all of them now have to prove that they contribute to the local community...by doing stuff like running holiday sports weeks!

Do you know any private schools in Brent that have good facilities? You could go and have an initial chat with one of them to tell them about your idea....and we can help you set that up if you like?

  • Avatar B 13:48, 30 March 2007 Hey thash, really kool idea! Big project but best thing to do is to start small.

Maybe create a plan of what it is that you are actually wanting to do - which part of Brent are you thinking of? what type of sporting opportunities will provide? how will arrange for the rent? will you charge students?

Once you have created an action plan, maybe you could send it to me and we can look at in more detail and have a look at different venues, activites, staffing, etc.
  • Avatar Ella 13:50, 30 March 2007 This sounds like a great idea it really sounds as if it will provide an important and fun programme for young people.

I would start off by doing a bit of research into what alrready exists in your local area and to try and find a gap of service provision. You should speak to local leisure/sports centres, local schools and the local council to see what's going on alreadt- just ring round and say that you want some information on summer activities for local children/young people.

Once you've found an area to work in then speak to a local school, they can help you with advertising (maybe letters home to pupils) and with a venue.

Once you've had a chat with them then just get back in touch with us here at the Helpdesk and we can help you with the next steps - it would be great to hear how you're getting on - Good Luck!
