What it's all about
I have been involved/volunteering with a local youth group called Xpression that is run by Kingston Mencap for kids of secondary school age. They meet once a week and have a variety of activities on offer for the kids e.g. drama workshops, trips to the Krispy Kreme factory, sports, etc.
I want to set up an art project to help raise funds for Xpression as they don't get a lot of money to keep it running. Art will be put on the programme for next term and kids will be given the chance to work on a project of their own, which will culminate in an art exhibition/fundraiser. Money will be raised by selling the artworks and by raffles, etc on the night. The youth club will be invited along, as well as the families of the children and other people that have been involved in the project itself.
I also hope to get a local celebrity and maybe the Parton of Mencap to come along to open the exhibition and to help raise awareness of the lack of funding many of these youth groups receive.
What's needed to make it a reality
Venue - funding for hire? and possible venues in the Kingston area
Opening night - pirzes for raffle, refreshements, etc
Comments
Thank you for coming in earlier to discuss your idea, its going to be a great way of getting the kids at the club involved in art and the exhibition will raise funds and awareness of the youth club's work. As we discussed because you are a Kingston University student you can get access to up to £750 to fund your idea. I'll be in touch soon to see how you're getting on with the objectives which we put in place at the project planning session.
