How it's done
As part of a youth volunteering project, a team of young homeless people from Crisis is organising an exclusive open-mike, live music night at the Crisis Skylight Café on Thursday 8 Nov 6-9pm.The event aims to express the rich and varied culture of London's buzzing streets and will showcase an eclectic range of talented musicians and street performers including buskers, and homeless artists alongside a few more established names on the music scene. The final line-up is yet to be announced but with over 12 performers on the bill, most music tastes should be catered for and entrance on the night is free!
The Crisis Youth Volunteering Programme offers young people (18-25) the opportunity to work as a team to organise and put on events, exploring issues around homelessness. This also provides the opportunity for them to work towards a recognised qualification, supporting their progression into employment or further education. A team of these volunteers have been working hard over the last few months to organise this event.
The Event takes place on Thursday 8th November 2007 from 6.00pm - 9.00pm
at
Crisis Skylight Cafe (64 Commercial Street, London, E1 6LT).
The Venue: Crisis Skylight Cafe is an inspiring, working cafe and arts space at Crisis HQ in East London, which also provides a route into work for homeless people. Under the guidance of en experienced café manager, homeless people receive individually structured training leading to recognised qualifications. The cafe is open to the public five days a week (Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3pm) serving a wide range of food and drinks.
