What it's all about
This week was aimed at increasing awareness of Arab culture amongst Birmingham University students.
What's needed to make it a reality
Why it was needed
This week was aimed at increasing awareness of Arab culture amongst Birmingham University students.
What's being done
The project was held over two days. One day was a stalls day where we had many stalls each representing a country from the Arab World and displayed food, souvenirs etc. The second day was an arts show in the Underground where we held Arabic fashion shows, instrument playing, belly dancing and where we had a buffet full of delicious arabic food.
How it started
We worked very hard on publicising our event to start off with so as to make sure we were attracting all kinds of students from around the uni. We did this by displaying lots of posters, creating a facebook event and sending out emails. The whole Arabsoc commitee wsa involved in this. We then approached caterers to provide us with the food which was quite costly but we went ahead with it anyway as food is an important part of the culture we wanted to get across.
