What it's all about

Local young people with learning difficulties& disabilities had some real transport issues in their local area.
Some older, confident students at the youth club, thought it would be a good idea to support those who were not as comfortable using public transport independantly could be mentored on a regular basis.

What's needed to make it a reality

Why it was needed

Local young people with learning difficulties& disabilities had some real transport issues in their local area.
Some older, confident students at the youth club, thought it would be a good idea to support those who were not as comfortable using public transport independantly could be mentored on a regular basis.

What's being done

Planned journeys, looked at timetables- each week progressing to a new challenge -so that eventually we would all travel with mentor and mentee and feel more confident travelling on public transport.
Creating a visual checklist really helped them.

How it started

Some of the young people were telling me they would like to be more independant and travel on public transport more.

with the help of the youthworkers they supported our project process and were there every step of the way.

More

the young people felt more confident in thinking about independanlt travel, and made them feel more comfortable with the idea.
