What it's all about

Aims: The purpose of the project would be to provide short music concerts in residential/Nursing homes and Sheltered accommodation venues across the Stockton on Tees borough. Other venues would also be considered on request. With the possibility of arranging a concert to raise money for a charity. Working in conjunction with QC Choir and Orchestra, although any student would be able to take part.

Why: In the past this has been done as a one off event and successfully saw 11 students taking part during SVE week 2006. This was enjoyed by all the students and the Nursing home where we sang.

Having done something similar with another group of singers, many of these homes are always looking for different groups to provide entertainment.

Frequency: On request basis, write out to local residential venues. Would aim for 1 -2 concerts per term.

What's needed to make it a reality

What we would need/Previous Obstacles: Many singers need some form of accompaniment and usually use piano, this is something which is difficult to transport and the one currently at Queens is badly out of tune. The project may need to purchase a good quality keyboard. Also music stands would be needed as previous performers have had to use other people to hold music. For big concerts it would be good to be able to purchase sheet music to enable the choir/orchestra to play a wide variety of music. There is practice space for musicians at Queens Campus but not apparently not very welcoming. We maybe could help to make this room more welcoming for students. We would also need to look into any legal requirements regarding performances and music.

Great idea Jess, you seem to have a very clear idea of what you need and where the project is going. If you need any pratical help in recruiting volunteers or organising your team, don't hesitate to get in touch. Best of luck, I'm sure it'll be a big success!
