What's needed to make it a reality

Why it was needed

Grove Park is a school situated in Kingsbury, London and caters for students with physical disabilities and/or delicate health. Such is the nature of its specialism that volunteers are always needed. However what most stood out was the lack of fun organised lunchtime activities which catered to the needs of the children.

What's being done

The project aims to set up weekly lunchtime activities for different classes run by the volunteers, mainly targeting 10-16 year olds. The activities will consist mainly of board games so that everyone can be involved, however other games will also be incorporated i.e. table tennis. The volunteers will also act as mentors to the students.

How it started

Initially, the school was contacted in order to find out teachers' opinions on what they would really like to see from the project. Following this, the project was set up with the help of the UCL Volunteering Services Unit.

More

More volunteers are needed so if you are interested, please email v.dattani@ucl.ac.uk.

  • Avatar Nadia Cole 14:20, 21 November 2007 This is a really creative project enabling volunteers to participate in lots of different ways and enriching the activities at the school and you have already put a lot of work in to prepare things in readiness for recruiting volunteers...so any UCL students out there who are interested please contact Veeral and me to get included in this exciting project.
