Why it was needed

The project theme was desire and intent, which we took a look at and applied to the ideas of advertising and branding. We put our work under the title of ‘Hunger’. This project titled ‘Hunger 2’ was the second part of a continuing set of events.
The idea was to raise awareness and broach the topics of desire and intent through the river of advertising and ‘social branding’ i.e. we are what we wear, we are what we consume. We wanted to explore how we as humans define ourselves as an image and brand conscious society.

Why was it needed…to bring these issues up! To create debate, to force self-awareness, to make people take a look at themselves and the people around them. To make them think! Are we obsessed with our image? Do we spend too much time allowing our desires to rule us? Is what we want, really what we need? We felt these were things that were really worth talking about, exploring and representing.

What's being done

We are a group of mixed media artists, graphic arts, visual arts, photography and DJ’s.

We collaborated to create artwork that raised these issues on a global level of representation, politics, and subliminal, advertising, consumerism. We create our events in the form of an exhibition/party at a venue combining art and music together to focus on these issues. Bringing people from everywhere to become involved in our project/ community, students, anybody.

How it started

With the help of Junction 49 we were able to fund our project appropriately and create an environment that enabled people to eat, drink, and enjoy a relaxed artistic atmosphere. The event was a complete success; we are now waiting in great anticipation to holding our next event.

More

We started out with our first event held at the foundry in Old Street London. The success of the first event led to our continuation. Our second event was held again in East London at the NO ID gallery in Calvert Street, Shoreditch on the 5th & 6th of May.

We provided a varied mix of different visual mediums to help our work appeal to a wide variety of people. We had a projector up with visuals, a DJ playing music, photography and graphic art works on display, there was food and drinks and the event was a success. We entertained a good number of people, not only our invitees, but also the general public.. There was a real mixed bag of different people who were able to discuss the artwork and current issues with many interesting topics raised.
