Why it was needed
It is a local school which a lot of the children in the local community attend. They were holding two different Christmas plays but the only set they had was a backdrop which was designed for Wizard of Oz, so not very festive! As there is no-one in the school who has the time/skills to paint the scenery a group of 6 of us wanted to help them out. What's being done
We first met with the Junction 49 Support Officer then we arranged a meeting with the school to discuss what scenery they wanted and to find out more about the plays so the scenery could be designed with the plays in mind. We then arranged through meetings and emails who in the group could do what days and times. Then we went to buy the materials and paint ( rollers, trays etc). First we had to paint the old set white, then added a layer of blue followed by all the details (see pictures on right!). We did not have much time, only 1 week so groups of us went into the school everyday (sometimes one group in morning and one in afternoon) to make sure it was finished and dry in time for the plays. How it started
After meeting with VSO, Celina helped arranged a meeting with the teacher responsible for the plays at the school. We were a group of 6 students who all worked together to get the painting done in time, luckily the school gave us a good idea for the design of the scenery which helped us a lot especially as time was short. This was a short-term project that lasted a week.More
We all really enjoyed as it was a really fun project and the feedback from the school has been fantastic, they were very grateful for our help. We were all invited to go along and see the plays so some of us went along to see the scenery being used
