What it's all about
I am interested in working with autistic children and am hoping to start a project involved with working with a child on the Sunrise program. It involves helping out with the child for 2 hours a week and is a short distance from Durham. With enough interest it may be possible to expand the project to other families.
What's needed to make it a reality
The only forseable cost is transport for volunteers, which should only be a short bus ride each time, or possibly taxi depending on the timing. There may be other costs later, but it should not be expensive.

All the best with your project.
I just heard in the news about a new book called: Musicophilia, tales of music and the brain by Oliver Sacks.
Sacks describes how music can animate people with Parkinson's disease who cannot otherwise move, give words to stroke patients who cannot otherwise speak, and calm and organize people whose memories are ravaged by Alzheimer's or amnesia.
You will find a lot more info. in his website http://www.oliversacks.com/musicophilia.htm

Please email me to let me know how you get on once you have contacted the family.
Thanks
