What it's all about
I want to get together a group of volunteers (who i have found 4) that want to go to Africa and help to build a hospital, a school, or an orphanage. These things are all desperately required and i'd love to go out there and help, and so would others i have spoken to, but it costs so so much and it's physically impossible to do. I know of 5 people now, including myself, from the University of Central Lancashire all on the same course that want to go out and make a difference, we are just having trouble with the money side of it. It would cost for the flights, and also to take extra luggage full of Books, toys, clothes, medical supplies etc for the people over there. The money itself if we were awarded any would go towards this, and we would foot the flights ourselves or try to secure funding from elsewhere for it, but the money from Junction 49 would go on building or developing a hospital or school etc which would be beneficial in the long term. it's something i have wanted for many years, but never been able to acheive and many other people have said the same.

This is a great idea, and lots of universities already have societies which run projects like this. You'll need to hook up with an NGO (non governmental organisation) to work with in the country you choose. If you are interested in volunteering in Uganda, I have contacts with Little Big Africa - a small organisation that runs volunteering projects for students incuding Bristol and Oxford Universities. They are based in Mbale in East Uganda. Let me know if you'd like to know more!
Because you are a student at UCLAN you can access up to £750 to turn your idea into a reality. UCLAN is one of 15 Universities who are taking part in the scheme where you can access funding, training and support from your Junction49 staff member (Sara) to help you get your project up and running. She'll be in touch with you soon to start helping you develop your project.
Hope your well, your idea is brilliant!
I'll be in contact very soon to arrange a time for you to come in and discuss your project.
Many thanks
