What it's all about
I run a tutoring scheme in a primary school called Christchurch School. It is a very unique school, set right in the heart of Brick Lane. Over 95% of the pupils are from a Bangladeshi background, speaking English as a 3rd or 4th language. Nearly all of these childrens' parents did not go to university and so they have no idea of what university is and what can be gained from going to it. The tutors go down to the school on Wednesdays and Fridays each week and work with the children.
The scheme will be stopping for the year at Easter and before this happens, I want to organize a trip for some of the children to come to UCL. The trip will include a tour of UCL for 50-60 pupils from the school along with some teachers and the tutoring volunteers. They will have refreshments as part of the visit. We will also be showing the children a student halls of residence, Newman House and also organise a fun-activity for them, such as, doing some art-work or maybe a trip to Bloomsbury Theatre.

This is a great idea! The trip that you'll be organising is a really great way to widen the perspectives of the pupils and give them an insight into university life.
You'll be adding value to the volunteering work that you already do and will be bringing the children into a new and exciting environment.
Hopefully you'll hear from people with ideas for your activities.
We've already had an initial meeting and I'll email you to arrange an update for next steps and to look at your budget. As you are a student studying at UCL University, you can access up to £750 to turn your idea into a reality. As you know, this is a specific project running at UCL and another 14 unis across the country.
See you soon,
