What it's all about

We are going to run a Fairtrade day at the University of Bath.
The morning will include a photography competition, focused around fairtrade and volunteering. We are also going to have stalls on the parade featuring groups from the university that are undertaking ethical and fair projects. This will include Esperanza Economica (SIFE) and One World. In the evening we are putting on a free showing of Black Gold. The refreshment stand will be fairtrade and run by SIFE Bath's Halfway Cafe (a rehabilitation program giving Young Offenders work experience). We are hoping to have free fairtrade goodies to give away throughout the day too.

What's needed to make it a reality

We need financial support, a venue for the film showing, fairtrade freebies and a judge for the photography competition.

  • Avatar Alex N-E 21:20, 10 December 2007 The £200 might seem steep to people. The reason refreshments are so high here is it is the entire cost of running the Halfway Cafe; hire of water boilers, fairtrade products, transportation and all the resources needed to work with Ashfield Prison and the young offenders that will be manning the stall.

Just to let everyone else know - As you are a student studying at Bath University, you can access up to £750 to turn your idea into reality. This is a specific project running at Bath and another 14 universities across the country - check out the uni pages for more info.

What do you think of the film black gold? Check it out here. There are screenings all over the UK for anyone interested.
