What it's all about
My intentions:
I would like to carry out a photography project with a group of 10 year one children. The children that will form the group are those who are gifted and talented in Art, as a way of celebrating their achievements. The children will have support in developing their skills of digital photography, and a professional photographer will assist in the workshop.
The project will focus on 'homes' and will feed into their school topic work.
The children will be asked to take a photograph at home of something that has significant meaning to them.
The children will then visit the Arnolifini, a contemporary Art gallery in the city centre, where they will view the work of American photographer Bill Owen. The focus of the exhibition is suburban homes. At the Arnolfini the children will have support from the galleries education assistant, this will help to enhance their experience at the exhibition. I will also be attending the opening night of the exhibition, where Bill Owen will be there to discuss his images.
After the visit the children will be asked to take another photograph, and we will look at, and discuss the comparison between the photographs. I will focus on developing the children's vocabulary skills alongside their photography skills.
This work will form part of my dissertation research project in which I am exploring the valuable contribution that gallery visits make to a broad and creative curriculum.
The children will be provided with a small sketch book/ portfolio in which they can collate their images.
As part of the finished project, I will enlarge the photographs and mount them onto canvas/ board to display within the school to celebrate their achievements!
What's needed to make it a reality
I will need to provide the children with small sketch books/ portfolios for their photographs
I will need some photo printing paper for their snapshots
I also intend to enlarge their final images and mount them onto board/canvas to be displayed in the school, to celebrate their achievements!

I like the sound of this...any chance you can get some of the photos up on Junction49 once your project's happening?
Because you are a student at UWE you can access up to £750 to turn your idea into a reality. UWE is one of 15 Universities who are taking part in the scheme where you can access funding, training and support from your Junction49 staff member (Jo Earl) to help you get your project up and running.
For anyone who wants to know more about - Bill Owens, or the exhibition at the Arnofini...
Lauren
