What it's all about

A variety of different organisations are holding a event for local school children aiming to tackle different issues they may encounter as they make the transition to secondary school, for example fire, train safety, stranger danger and peer pressure. The day consists of different workshops which the groups of 8-11 year olds move round so they all get a chance to experince each workshop. Each group gets marked out of 10 for their performance on each workshop. Different organsiations are involved in this event including the local fire service and the Met police. The organisers are keen to run a drug awareness workshop but havent got anyone to run it, so I plan to run the drugs workshop. It will raise awareness of legal and illegal drugs as well as smoking and alcohol. The session will be a short interactive session, getting the children to think about the different issues around drugs and alcohol.

Thank you very much for posting this idea. It' great you can lead the drugs session. I am hoping to come along on Monday too so I will be in touch to confirm if I'm going. Thank you. Celina (VSO-Kingston)
  • Avatar zw!tch 11:20, 24 January 2008 This sounds really worthwhile, perhaps after this event you could do similar sessions at other schools...

As you are a student at Kingston, one of 15 universities working in partnership with Junction49, your Volunteer Support Officer(VSO), Celina (who commented above!) will be in touch with you to help you access up to £750 of funding and offer you support throughout the development of your project

    Hope it goes well
