What it's all about

Since I started volunteering in the LGBT sector, I have noticed that one of the major problems facing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community is homophobia and transphobia in schools. As I see it, this is where many of the other problem stem from. I believe that if LGBT students are encouraged and celebrated in the same way that other students are then they will grow up feeling safe and able to thrive in an environment free from discrimination.

I hope to start by working with PCGE and BA Education students as they are about to enter into the education system and will directly affect a child's experience at school. To do this I plan to start a poster and flyer campaign, informing these students of the issues LGBT people face and how they can make a difference through their profession.

What's needed to make it a reality

To start this campaign I will need a small amount of funding in order to produce the posters and flyers. I will also need the support of the faculty of education so that I will be allowed to target the students.

Thank you for coming in earlier, it was great hearing more about your idea. As you know because you are a student at Kingston University you can access support and funding to turn your idea into a reality.

I think this is a great idea as the experince a child has at school is so influential on their whole development and its essential everything possible is done to ensure teachers are fully equipped to deal with all types bulying and discrimation that could happen in a school.

Ill be in touch soon to arrange a time to write out a project action plan.

    Best wishes,

    Celina (Kingston VSO)
