What it's all about

We would like to organise an event-perhaps just for one day or maybe on a more regular basis-in which we can allow participants to do various activities. We would like these activites to be a little bit weird and different and the sorts of things that normal people wouldn't do on an everyday basis. We would hope that this would lead them to get a fuller enjoyment from life and be more inspired by the smaller things that we all do everyday. We would have specific instructions for each activity and be able to lead smaller groups around the activities all day or for an hour or so. We are actually art students and have had two similar type events to the one we are proposing now. We are inspired to get a wider crowd of people invloved with these ridiculous activites such as "prawn pancake roll making", "a yazoo parade," or, "badger set stopper making." These activites may seem like they should be aimed at solely the younger age group, but we think it would be more beneficial to get a whole age range involved so they can really let go and think about life or just forgetting life and becoming absorbed in something ridiculous/unusual for an afternoon.

What's needed to make it a reality

To get started we would need a venue, be it indoor or outdoor. We would also need furniture like tables and chairs and money to fund buying materials for the activities. For example for a yazoo parade we would need a yazoo (a milk drink) for each participant. We would also need some way of getting groups of people together to come to these activities

Let's meet up at the Voluntary Services Unit to discuss your interesting idea in more detail. I'll email you about this. Take care, Nadia Cole, UCL Union, VSU, volunteering development worker
