What it's all about

I have wrote a song about animal cruelty and i want to record and release it, i want 100% of all money made to go towards rspca or any other animal cruelty society. If anyone wants to record it with me, i will need some productioon and music, think guitar will work best, i have lyrics and melody just need a recording of it.

What's needed to make it a reality

Guitar player and producer, advice on how to release it! It could be a download, may be that is easier.

  • Avatar Ella 11:17, 25 March 2008 Hi Lucia,

Cheers for posting your idea - Junction49 is here to support you turn your idea into reality!

I like the idea about producing a song which would raise money for animal charities.

Here's a few things to think about:-

    - There is a website in Manchester http://www.musolist.com/United-Kingdom/Manchester-Musicians-Wanted which is where musicians/bands advertise.
    - A downloadable song I think is better, as this will cut down costs, which means that more money will go to the charities you wish to donate to.
    - There are a lot of other fundraising ideas up on the site, so have a look at how
other young people are raising money for the charities they feel passionately about by going to www.junction49.co.uk/ideas.

I hope this has helped to kick-start your thought process. Junction49 can help you come up with an action plan which will give you support in the development of your idea into reality, so just get in touch if you would like us to work with you to come up with one.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

  • Avatar Zoë 12:33, 04 April 2008 J49 Staff Hi Lucia,

I have some good news for you - our judges have discussed your idea decided we can award you some Junction49 funds to turn your song idea into a reality!

In order for your project to have a measurable positive impact on the local community we ask that you find a local animal charity or shelter to donate the money raised to ? are there any that you know of?

Have you had a look at the listings site that Ella suggested above? You could also try partysounds.co.uk to help find others to get involved. Of course you can also put up posters in your school/college/university if you're still in education?

Your next step is to decide on your budget and post it up here on Junction49. This will depend on if you can find people to help you record it for free since it's for charity! You'll need to think about making posters to advertise it...or if you want to contact local media to get some publicity on the radio or in a local paper?

Please can you also email a contact phone number (in fact ideally a mobile and landline) to help@junction49.co.uk?

Can you also add your birth date on to your personal profile on Junction49 by going to my stuff at the top, and then edit personal info on the side bar.

Please just let us know what support you need ? ask any questions and we'll do our best to help...

Hope to hear from you soon!

    Cheers,

    Zoë

  • Avatar lucia 13:41, 05 April 2008 My thoughts are as follows:

    Record song- need producer
Market song need to do the following:
    · Web site promoting the song with a down load feature on it, some literature from the charity I choose to represent, I am thinking cats protection or RSPCA, some details of where to buy cruelty free products, a sample of the song.
    · A press release to get companies to donate to this cause
    · CD's of the song (would need a designer for the CD labels and a company to produce at least 50/100 to sell)
    · An event to promote the sales of CD's, I think a fund raising night in a local bar, ask local bands to perform for free on this event or find a minimum cost they will except, charge the public £ 3.00 to enter, all proceeds to the charity and I would perform the song live and after promote the sales of the CD's or we could even go as far as inviting a celebrity to perform the song, that would generate them press and get more people to the event! Ask any animal rights representatives if they want to attend or do a speech. Have a raffle to raise more money, need 3 prizes, I will donate 5 free personal training sessions as I am a personal trainer by trade, ask local business if they will donate a prize. Also try and attend any local events or fun days where I could have a stall and sell the song. Ask local bars to play the song and also help sell the CD's in exchange for press.
    · Posters to put up in colleges, universities, businesses asking people if they want to get involved or to come to the event, would have to get a printer to print professionally.
    · Could have t shirts printed to sell promoting the event, would ask a local t-shirt printing company if they will donate or how much it will cost.
    · Ask local radio stations to play the song, all royalties to go to the charity.

I have no idea of how much this would cost, it will depend on how charitable people are feeling, please give me your views on what sort of budget I should have, I think may be £50-£100.00 but that is just a guess. All receipts will be sent to you for everything we could get the companies to invoice you or I could have petty cash. All donations will be acknowledged in the press.

(These are just my thoughts, this is not my area of expertise as have worked as a fitness instructor most of my life and in leisure management past couple of years so any advise on how to make this event bigger and better is welcomed! Thanks again for getting involved

  • Avatar Zoë 18:08, 08 April 2008 J49 Staff Hi Lucia,

Great to see you've been having a think about this, and that you have so much enthusiasm! A word of warning ? don't take on too much...make sure you have the time and resources to do everything you decide to take on and then you should have a success on your hands

Do you have any contacts for a producer? I'm going to have a look into ways you can get your song uploaded and get back to you.

From what you've said I think you'll need money for:
    - printing for the press release (unless this is done by email?), and posters
    - cd production, and design for labels
    - t-shirts

Are you alright to look into getting prices for these and anything else you might need? As you say it depends how charitable people are feeling, but once you've approached people you'll have an idea of how much it's going to cost. £100 won't be a problem overall, but just let us know what you find out!

    Cheers,

  • Avatar Zoë 11:28, 09 April 2008 J49 Staff Hey again,

One possibility for the download of your song is that you upload it to a project page you create here on Junction49. You can then also set up a justgiving account so people can donate money when they download your song.

If you feel that's giving people too much of a chance to download for free...then check out these sites:

Payperclip is a new service where you can sell, share, download free content or buy new and original music and videos from across the globe.

FlameTunes is a way to distribute your music from all the sites and community's that you control. By using the FlameTunes player you give your fans an access to your music that has not been possible before, they can simply pre-listen to your music and buy the ones they like, with a few clicks!

SnoCap is the first end-to-end provider of digital licensing and copyright management services for the digital music marketplace.

SongCast is a music distribution service that delivers independent music to the world's most popular download retailers, including; iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon, Emusic and Napster. With SongCast, you can start selling your music on major download sites right away, and they will also provide you with customised code to link other websites directly to the stores.

Have a look and let us know what you think you're going to do...if you choose to use a site that charges you to have your song available as a download then that'll need to be included in your budget...

  • Avatar lucia 16:22, 17 April 2008 Thanks for the ideas, I have a company helping with this event, i will get the track down with them and they will do 50 cd's for aprox £50.00, these can be sold at the event i do, then also have the donation service here on junction 49 and then maybe song cast as well to be included in the budget. I will then pick a date and venue for the event and get back to you. Report Abuse
  • Avatar Zoë 17:10, 23 April 2008 J49 Staff That's great that you've got people involved to record the track

So you'll need about £50 for cds...any news on whether you can get a venue for free? some places will do this for charity gigs, though they might need a deposit that's returnable if enough money's made on the bar...do you know the bands you're hoping to get involved?

    Any other help/advice you need?

  • Avatar lucia 22:07, 23 April 2008 Hi thanks for your email, I am going to a company tomorrow called It media to record the song, he will do it for £50.00, I have one artist already who is willing to do a few songs that night with her band, I will do the same and I am going to the local paper when the song is complete to do an article on what we are doing and I will ask if local bands could get involved that way, this is how I came into contact with It media as I was in local paper a month ago and Steve from it media contacted me because of that. I have a Venue in mind and as soon as song is recorded I will go chat to the owner and ask if he will get involved. Will let you know when I know more, I will send you the track too when it's complete so you can hear it

    Kind Regards

  • Avatar Zoë 17:10, 22 October 2008 J49 Staff Hey Lucia,

Great to hear it's all been going so well :)

Have a look back at the ideas I posted for places to share your song online - unfortunately you can't do it directly on Junction49 anymore but if you upload it to another site you can post a link here.

If you've got any photos it'd be great to see them too!

Good luck with your next event, and let us know if you need any more help.
