What it's all about

To show Studnets at Middlesex University just how much energy goes into the production of things and how trhey can make small changes that will have a big impact on the environment.

What's needed to make it a reality

Why it was needed

To show Studnets at Middlesex University just how much energy goes into the production of things and how trhey can make small changes that will have a big impact on the environment.

What's being done

The main focus of the event was to be the blenda venda bicycle powered smoothie bike- it's really visual and a great way for people to actually see energy going into something. Students actually rode the bike in order to power a blender, at the end opf a 30 second bike ride they got a smoothie. Aswell as this I organised flyers, handed out reusable shopping bags, hippo water savers (special bags that go into the cistern of a toilet and save 30% of the water every time you flush!) we also gave out junction 49 pens as they are all made out of recycled materials.

How it started

The day was a success thanks to all the volunteers who came along and helped. They were absolutely fantastic and I hope that they will all get incvolved with running there own Junction 49 projects soon.

More

I started by looking at the feedback cards that were filled in from freshers fair so as to come up with an event that would interest students. A lot of people were passionate about environmental issues and recycling so I thought this would be a good opportunity to get students involved in volunteering in somethihng they cared about and also to spread the word about junction 49.
