Why it was needed
The problem of Binge Drinking is a hot topic at the moment and everywhere you turn there is someone telling you not to do it.
What's being done
We didn't think the message was getting through - no one likes to be told not to do something - so we thought it might be more meaningful to show the effects of Binge Drinking and back that up by telling everyone about our new website where they can get info and help if they need it.
How it started
This Campaign actually started as a theoretical project for our Graphic Communications course, but we soon realised that it was really needed, so we decided to 'bring it to life' and make it happen.
We had already developed a website - www.d-r-n-k.com but needed to raise awareness that it was there and that it could help. This is what the Campaign included:
Posters - website details and effects of drinking info
Hand and branding stamps - giving website info
Coin stickers - placed on all the 50p coins in the SU bar
Holographic images - placed on the glass windows in the SU bar
Floor stickers - pools of vomit, someone falling upstairs
High security wrist bands - carrying website details
Free bottled water
More
We got togther a group of volunteers and we took over the SU with the campaign during the evening sessions. We tried to make sure people that those people who need them left with a sticker, hand brand or a wrist band. We gave out free water and we talked to people about what we were doing.
It was a really well received Campaign that was very visible and easy to understand. We don't think anyone left one of the evening sessions without taking the message on board.
