What it's all about

we decided to bring sports and culture together globally! bringing young people together to experience culture and sport now that sport has become something that unites people from different cultures and backgrounds. with the 2008 beijing olympics displaying an immense amount of culture from the opening ceremony to the sports events to the closing ceremony. We have a vision to incorporate all generations all backgrounds and create positive change and perceptions through sport and culture bringing the world together as one!

We need to confirm a date, we are thinking next June or July...if we try out the different bits before like the sports workshops.

  • Avatar zw!tch 15:03, 09 September 2008 Hi Girls

This is a big project to take on, but one that tackles issues that are very much in people's minds at the moment.

You'll need to think about what you're going to do first, I reckon the research first and think about which bits you want to test out, for example the sports sessions with sports from different countries.

If you've had any more thoughts or progress since you came up with the idea post them up or edit your idea...and let us know what support you need next :)

  • Avatar Victoria Elliott 12:10, 22 September 2008 Sport is a great way to break down cultural barriers and so Culture 2012 has a lot of potential.

As you are going to be at one of our partner universities, get in touch with your Volunteer Support Officer (through the University tab on the website) and she will help you apply for up to £750 of funding and give you guidance for organising the event.

Get other University societies involved…the sports department can showcase the diversity of their clubs and encourage membership form the event; performing arts society; language department etc. The student union may also be able to help you with location.

Recruit other student volunteers who want experience of event planning or just support the idea. This will share the workload and mean that the event will be a success!

Look forward to hearing all the developments!

    Victoria
