What it's all about

hi, my objective is to beat crime, im in the police cadets now and curently seeing over 18's on the street drinking instead of pubs or clubs. there is nothing for them to do within the village, so i would like to set something up for them to do, and there is a fotball team, but is short of money aswell, with very poor equipment but there is absolutely nothing for gils to do, why cant they have a netball team? instead of watching the boys play football of bordesem

What's needed to make it a reality

money, where to go, council, plans, brain storming ideas, grants, motivation from others.

It’s fantastic that you are so motivated to improve the conditions for young people in your area.

A netball team would be a great facility for the girls. As you are close to Bangor University, I wonder if you could contact the netball team there to see if anyone would be willing to coach you – would be great voluntary experience for them.

Take a look at this BBC article http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/northwest/sites/sport/pages/netball.shtml where netball in north-west Wales is the topic of conversation!

You could try organising a working party whereby locals give up their time to help renovate the snooker hall. For example you could have a painting party on a Saturday where volunteers give up a couple of hours of their time. Maybe you could organise a snooker tournament at the club to raise money to pay for the materials you need. This would really make local people feel involved and want to use their facilities.

Unfortunately, Junction49 funding only extends to England but the Sports Council for Wales may be able to help you secure a grant for your project http://www.sports-council-wales.org.uk/grants-funding/grant-schemes.

National Crimebeat is an initiative encouraging young people to get involved in creating safer communities by offering grants of up to £500 to assist in setting up a project. This sounds exactly like the sort of the project they would be interested in, you can find out more at http://www.national-crimebeat.org.uk.

    Best of luck

i would never have thought of something like that, but am over the moon that you have. this is one of the issues of today, and i am so glad that you have brought it up. Where i live, there are people in their mid to late teens in their little groups all around my town, especially on a friday night! if i were you, i would go to the council with a portfolio maybe on what your plan is. tell them your idea, and maybe you can have an event to raise some money? this idea is starting t sound like 'dragons den'!
