What it's all about
Online Youth Club
In this modern world young people are pigeonholed by society, they don’t chase their passion through fear of failure, programmed by mediocrity. This website in coordination with the offline events will change that. It will get every young person becoming excited about their futures because they are doing what makes them truly happy.
The internet is a tool, a tool that should be used more to reach young people throughout the world. The project I’m proposing is a mainly online club for young people to visit and join. The club being mainly online means that it can reach a wider audience, and by reaching a wider audience it will make more of a impact on the people that it’s targeted for.
A little about me, I’m 17 and currently employed full time as a IT Technician at a local private school, which I also teach at. So I know what I’m talking about when it comes to using the internet as a tool. I love working with the children and the fact that every day is different and always a challenge. As well as work I’m studying at the Open University, which I’m really enjoying. However I still have lots of time that I will be devoting to this project.
Moving onto the project itself.
The website will offer:
• Advice, on everything that a young person needs from their social life and getting through school to their professional life and applying for their first job.
• Online Chat, so they can talk in real time not only to professionals giving support but other young people.
• Forums, members will be able to post and share advice and ideas.
• Educational Resources, why should we have to pay for education, these days if I wanted to learn a new skill in something like art, there is no one place I can get all the information for free. I want to change that.
• Blog, giving everything from general information that young people will be interested in the specific information about school e.c.t.
• Pod Cast, this would be a good idea for a member to run, someone that is interested in radio, audio, broadcasting e.c.t., and like most things on this page would not cost much at all if anything.
• Club Magazine, again this is something that would be good to get the members of the website involved in. The magazine would be aimed specifically to young people, written by young people and created by young people. It could also go into production, who knows.
• Games and other Entertainment, this would be something to get the younger members of our target audience to the website.
Members would get:
• Discounts, I believe that creating relationships with not only local businesses but businesses worldwide will be crucial, a result of a partnership with a business could be a discount for members of the club.
• 24/7 Support, young people need support when they need it not at 7oclock in the morning when the social worker gets into the office.
• CV, one of the most important things for a young person is their CV and it’s more often than not a very stressful period of time when writing it. We will have an extensive guide, templates and possibly a video from a professional on the website; this will also get the schools interested.
Partnerships:
• Connexions, they will be the best source of people to give advice, if we set up some kind of partnership with them involving something like having supports just for our club it would be invaluable.
• Educational Institutions,
• Schools, the website will be designed with schools in mind because they will be our biggest source of members.
Offline Events/Projects:
• Gallery, a gallery showing work from members of the club would not only give the members a boost but give advertising for the club.
• Internet Cafe, everyone should have access to the internet not only to use the proposed website but to tap into the wealth of knowledge that is the internet.
• Workshop Kits, the club would offer kits to help people in the community set up after school clubs and things like that. This would improve on the clubs concept of getting young people to follow their passion.
Community Outreach Program:
The Community Outreach Program will be, when using the radio station and podcasts as an example:
A live radio cast in a public place getting everyday people on the radio giving interviews as well as important people in the community, getting the community involved in the management of the radio station and the podcasts.
Once the website is up it will need no additional funding, however in order to improve on it more I will be seeking some kind of funding to pay for things like equipment for the podcast, if the magazine does actually go into production e.c.t.
Only expenses will be:
• Logo design
• Website Template
• Having the template customized and converted to a content management solution
• Designs made for the forum, blog and emails
However these outgoings will take us close to the budget, if the project is accepted I will go into furthur detail on the budget.
These are just some basic ideas and the project will grow more and more over time.
I'm eager to hear what you think so please post a comment and let me know.
Thanks in advanced
Tayler Hughes

Cheers for posting your new idea, good news - we can still fund the online youth club with this batch of ideas :) I like the idea of bringing a youth club online - it can be a place where young people can go that is unconnected to the rules or school and college but still useful and fun at the same time :)
A couple of points...
It's not quite clear what you would be using the funds for - would you be paying a company for the template and CMS customisation?and for the logo design? Could you send us the further deatil you've offered please?
This is a big undertaking so I'd recommend perhaps starting with one or two parts of the site and building up from there. I think the online magazine and discounts are probably the best places to start - what do you think?
Offering advice is a tricky area and there are already a few good sites provide advice to young people, for example www.thesite.org.uk. I'm not sure how you plan for your website to provide advice so perhaps you would consider signposting people to this site or you could contact them to see how you can work together? You might also find http://www.youthaccess.org.uk useful, there's a lot of info on there.
As for CVs again there are sites out there with info that you can link to like http://www.cvtips.com and http://cvwriting.net
Why don't you add some actions to this idea so other Jn49ers know how they can get involved and help you turn this into reality...
Cheers,
Zoë
How is the development of your idea going? I see you've got lots of support in the forum, which is really great! Maybe you could update your diary to let everyone know how you're getting along.
If you need any help or advice, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

I've come across something that will interest you, it's called 4wd and the founder, Naomi has some of the same aims as you: http://www.myspace.com/4wdlondon Hopefully 4wd will be on Junction49 soon. You should be able to find a way to work together :)
How did you get along with the designs you mention in your diary?
Anyone interested in what's happening in the forum with the online youth club have a little lookie here:
