What it's all about
We are wanting to start up a drama/acting club in the local community for young children,5-11's. Where they can learn to write their own scripts ,make own costumes, then put THEIR show in schools and clubs, oap homes etc in the surrounding areas.I feel this will boost the children's confidence and they will get alot of fun out of it and follow their dreams,as I know from helping out in the local school that lot of the children would love to be in the limelight in front of an audience, and don't have much of this in school alone.
What's needed to make it a reality
IWe are needing advice in starting it up ,are they any guidlines in starting a project like this.what about funding.Bascially what we can and can't do.

This is a really fantastic idea and one which I think would be really popular with young children.
Have you thought about where you could hold the project yet? You mentioned a local school, perhaps you could get in touch to find out what they think about your idea and whether they would be happy for you to set the club up there. You could run it with the children from that school, see how it goes and then you can always expand it in the future.
If you are between the age of 16 and 19, you can apply for funding through 'Quids In', which is through the young people's services of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council. 'Quids In' is a government youth funding initiative designed to help young people in Rotherham to fund their ideas and needs. Here is the link: http://www.rotherham.gov.uk/graphics/Learning/Education+Services/Young+Peoples+Services/Quids_In_YOF_YCF.htm
It's really great that you've already started thinking long term about how this project could run and asking for a small contribution from each child is a good idea to put towards refreshments.
Let us know what you think and if you are able to apply for the funding. If not just come back to us and we can look into something else. If you need any help or advice, then we are more than happy to help.

Thank you for your comments, it's great tp know that someone else thinks it's a good idea,I know the kids will love it.We are trying to get a meeting with the head o the school at this very moment.
Unfortunate I'm well over 19, ;-) .So I won't be able to get any funding through the site you mention.

Not sure how far over 19 you are :)
You could try:
www.awardsforall.org.uk
Awards for All is a Lottery grant scheme for local communities. There are different schemes for each of the four countries of the UK and they are funded by organisations such as the Arts Council, Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, Sport England, etc.
Grants are awarded for sums between £300 and £10,000 for projects that promote education, the environment and health of the local community.
Or maybe:
http://www.itsyourcommunity.co.uk/WhatsItAllAbout.aspx
O2 ‘It’s Your Community Awards’: Grants of up to £1,000 for Local Groups and Individuals (Ongoing). Up to £1,000 for anything that will benefit your community. Apply for an ‘It’s Your Community Award’ if your project is: sustainable (it will keep going once this money is spent); non-political and non-religious; on public or accessible land; ready to go (awards are granted every month, so apply when you are set to spend; small enough that £1000 will make all the difference...‘It’s Your Community Awards’ cannot fund the following: one off events or workshops; fundraising activities; professional fees; school projects that do not involve the wider community.
Why not get some drama students from a local secondary school or college involved? I bet there are loads of enthusiastic people looking to get involved with an idea like this!
Good luck :)
Thanks for the infor, I'll look into those funding websites.
I love the idea of asking drama students from the secondary school.I do have good contact with the head in the nearby comprehensive school, I'm on it ,thank you once again.

Ps I'm doubled the 19 age ;-), is that too old?
How's the project going? Richard Morris, recently posted an idea on the website about setting up a drama and games club and he has had 5 years experience of running drama clubs in a primary school. It might be worth getting in contact to see if he has any advice he can give you in setting up your own club. His idea page is at this link below: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/1817/drama_games_and_club/
I hope it is helpful.
