What it's all about

Animation is an easy way to explore any theme in any subject of education - or just create something original! It's easier for schools to do animation now than ever before, with equipment so cheap and quick to set up. I want to get into some local schools and see what they think of working on some animation projects. I have experience of doing this where I come from (in Essex), with very positive results. Take a look at the 'Photos' and 'Videos' to have a look at some previous workshops!

What's needed to make it a reality

Other students/volunteers to help get it going. The school must hand-pick pupils who they believe will benifit from the project. TA support from the school. Investment in 'Digital Blue' animation cameras and materials.

This sounds like a really interesting and different project and using animation is a great way to engage children. It sounds like you've already got experience in this area, but I found this website called "Animation for Education" and they have some videos on there of what teachers have done in the past, so you may find some inspiration: http://www.animationforeducation.co.uk/index.html

As you are a student at UWE you can access up to £750 to turn your idea into a reality. UWE is one of 12 Universities who are taking part in the scheme where you can access funding, training and support from your Junction49 staff member (Helen) to help you get your project up and running. You can take a look at your university page here: http://www.junction49.co.uk/university/13/university_of_west_of_england_-_bristol

  • Avatar Jack Norris 02:15, 10 November 2008 Thanks everyone for the comments and messages. Animation is definately very effective in schools with many possible age groups. Even extremely simple animations that appeared to be unsuccessful at the time can be re-edited and mixed with music to create a new effect, as on the 'Kick Up The Arts' workshop (click on 'videos' tab)! • Avatar Deniz Aslan 19:44, 10 November 2008 On average, how much did it cost to produce one of the videos? How much time did it require? I'm trying to incorporate some animation into one of my projects( http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/1853/food_for_thought_/ ) - all help/advice appreciated!! Report Abuse
