What it's all about
I hope to hold an event to promote awareness and fundraise for World AIDS Day. The event will consist of the following:
1. Postering World AIDS Day materials the week leading up to Dec 1st in our program's lecture hall, Drill Hall as well as The Students Union.
2. Red-Ribbon Sales, along with baked good sales with the World AIDS day theme (red icing, etc)
3. Distribution of condoms free of charge when a red-ribbon is sold.
4. Raffle drawing for a prize, such as a gift basket or AIDS-related clothing.
5. Getting pledges on postcards to "Stop AIDS. Keep the promise" (These resources available from www.worldAIDScampaign.org)
6. Movie screening - 3 Needles within Drill Hall Lecture Theatre followed by reception.
7. Speaker on HIV/AIDS - Dr Ong presenting lecture on the progress of HIV struggle. Drill Hall Lecture Theatre followed by reception and post lecture discussion.
What's needed to make it a reality
So far I have organised the following:
Guest Speaker and reception provided as support in kind by School of Medicine
Film Screening in Drill Hall Lecture theatre and reception provided as support in kind by School of Medicine.
An events committee consisting of 8 people
I am looking for volunteers to help with managing a stall selling red ribbons, baked goods as well as promoting the event and selling ribbons and collecting money for charity. I also need help to decorate cakes and biscuits and flyering and postering the event. I am currently contacting organisations who may help with donations for condoms for the stall.
I am looking for funding for ingredients for baked goods, promotional materials and purchasing the film 3 needles.
Please get in touch if you can help in any way.

This sounds like a truly fantastic project. With all the different activities going on you're going to engage so many students in World AIDS Day which I think is really important as it's a very worthy cause.
As you are a student at Northumbria you can access up to £750 to turn your idea into a reality. Northumbria is one of 12 Universities who are taking part in the scheme where you can access funding, training and support from your Junction49 Volunteer Support Officer (Yvette) to help you get your project up and running. You can take a look at your university page here:

Good Luck, let us know if you need anything else.

They mentioned getting resources from the Terrence Higgins Trust, like free condoms and ribbons, so may be good to contact if you haven't already. http://www.tht.org.uk/howyoucanhelpus/fundraisingmaterials/ Report Abuse
A while ago I mentioned about the Junction49 celebration event in London. You can nominate your project for this and possibly even receive an award. See below for further details. You've worked so hard on your project I'd really like the rest of the world to see how much effort and good you're doing so please nominate it :-) I know you might not be in the country for the event but you can still nominate your project and we can arrange to send over any prize you win.
Here at Junction49, we want to celebrate all of the hardwork and effort you’ve put into your volunteering projects and on 16th June we are putting on a Party at the Proud Galleries in Camden, London.
At the party, awards are going to be given out to you guys, but to have a shot at winning we need to hear about your projects and the fantastic difference that you are making in your community.
The awards you could win are:
Best J49er (best user of the website)
Most innovative project
Best ongoing project
Best one-off project
If you would like to be nominated for an award and be in with a chance of winning a fantastic prize, all you need to do is fill out a diary entry on your ideas page on Junction49.co.uk, which answers the following 3 questions:
1. What was your project about?
2. How do you think it made a difference to the community or the wider world?
3. What did you get out of/like about volunteering on this project?
You have until 5pm on 4th June 2009 to fill this out and then we will shortlist all nominations. Go on, fill it out, you know you deserve a chance of winning!
Good Luck and hopefully see you on 16th June.
