What it's all about
A project called iConnect which concentrates on youth culture and allows the youth to have a voice.
Our aims are:
-To bring the youth together as a community.
-To attempt to reconnect the youth with the police force.
-Make our community more aware of illegal behaviour.
-Try to build trust within our community.
-Raise awareness/prioritise youth issues/culture
-To produce hope among us
It is aimed at 11-16 year olds. However, help and encouragement is needed from everyone!
We would like to cover several topics:
=Gun & knife crime;
=General crime;
=Gangs;
=Media Influence;
=Consequences;
=Manners;
=Respect;
=Education;
=Language and Presentation.
we have thought about maybe creating an interview with the police to show to people what they have to deal with but also to help gain back the respect for the police.
We would like to move on to raising money to contribute to such organisations like www.droptheweapons.org or itdoesnthavetohappen.co.uk.
We want to make many different short films and clips which address key factors of today’s society and which look at the actions and consequences from different angles.
What's needed to make it a reality
we need funding to create posters & flyers to advertise this project, also money to build up our compaign and to get resources to reach our aims (listed above).
also we need more advice on different ways to go about this project and help to professionalise our ideas.

Thanks for posting up what sounds like a fantastic project. Creating a film I think would be really beneficial, as it will enable the young people to visualise the point you are trying to get across.
Do you by any chance happen to go to Middlesex University? If you are let us know, so we can update your profile so that your ideas are associated with everything else going on at Middlesex. It also means that you will able to access up to £750 to turn your idea into reality from the Volunteer Support Officer, (Rich). As well as helping you access funding, he can also provide you with all the support and training you need to make this project a success. He has also had film training, so will be able to advise you in producing your own film.

If you're not students at Middlesex, or the partner universities, let us know and we will be able to point you in the right direction to get other funding and all the support and advice you need.
There have been a couple of projects in the past, similar to the one you're trying to achieve. It may be worth checking out these ideas and even getting in touch with them to see if they have any advice they can offer you. The links to their ideas are below:

Crimestoppers might also be a useful website to go to for information. They have some resources for going into schools, which may be helpful.

Let us know how we can help and whether you're students at Middlesex University, so we can make sure you get access to all the right resources.
Good Luck

Thanks for your message. To get funding you can go to the Prince's Trust, clicking on the link below. 14-16 year olds can apply for up to £1000 to set up a project which will the benefit the community. The application form looks really simple too. http://www.princes-trust.org.uk/Main%20Site%20v2/14-30%20and%20need%20help/grants%20for%20community%20projects.asp
It might also be worth checking out ITV Fixers, where can give you some money to help your campaign. If you make a film too then they can help you showcase your project by broadcasting it on ITV Local.

I'm really sorry to hear you weren't able to access funding, but I've found some more funding out there which is aimed at supporting young people develop campaigns particularly
where filming is involved.
CHANGEit offer awards to young people who want to make positive change happen, but need support to get it started. Winners receive £750 towards their campaign and runners up will get £250. The website link is below and is definitely worth taking a look and applying.
http://www.changeit.org.uk/index.php/innovation-awards/
There's also the o2 'It's your Community Awards', where you can get up to £1000, but it may be worth emailing them explaining what your idea is to find out if you're eligible for funding before filling out the application form. Their email address is: hello@itsyourcommunity.co.uk and their website it: http://www.itsyourcommunity.co.uk/WhatsItAllAbout.aspx
Best of luck, let us know if you need any help and what the outcome of your applications are if you make any.
You mention in your idea that you would also like to raise money for some organisations. Perhaps you could organise something small to start with like a non-uniform day at your school. It would raise awareness about your idea and you could perhaps even do a short assembly to the rest of the school talking about your idea and what you want to do. It could potentially lead on to other people getting involved and your teachers interested too.
This is a project with great potential and your commitment and enthusiasm to turning it into reality is really inspirational. Good Luck!

Actions are all the tasks and things that need to be done in order to turn your idea into reality. You added an action to your idea when you first submitted the idea on Junction49 and another Junction49er has probably seen your idea, thought it was really great and now wants to help you out in turning your idea into reality, so if you would like any help just get in touch with them.
I hope that answers your question if you have any other questions please get in contact.

Have you had any luck with funding yet? Here at Junction49 we are currently offering users the opportunity to win up to £1000 to turn their ideas into reality, judging against the criteria on this page http://www.junction49.co.uk/pages/win_funding. We've just chosen the ideas we'd like to offer funding to and yours is one of them!
Your next step is to decide on your proposed budget and let us know. We can offer you a maximum of £300 to be used on your project by May 2009. Please can you also email a contact phone number (in fact ideally a mobile and landline) to help@junction49.co.uk?
Hope to hear from you soon :)

I hope everything is going well. I just wanted to let you know about a new website which has been launched to help people like yourselves campaign against knife crime. It Doesn't Have to Happen has toolkits about how to campaign as well as loads of other information on the site which might be helpful to you in your project. The website link is below:
http://www.crimereduction.homeoffice.gov.uk/stopknifecrime/index.htm
I also found this website too, which might have some inspiring ideas for your own project. There are also links to lots of other helpful websites: http://www.livesnotknives.com/index.php
I hope that's helpful and look forward to hearing from you soon,

I did a bit of research into where you could potentially hold your talent show.
Firstly have you thought about holding it at your school? This may be the easiest way to get a venue without worrying too much about the cost and might really encourage students at your school to get involved?
I spoke to someone I know at Middlesex University and he said a place that his students have used is the Edmonton Green Leisure Centre and it only cost £15 an hour, which is really good. If you contact them, you might want to make sure they know it's a voluntary thing and maybe that's how the uni students got the discount. You can give them a call on 020 8375 3750 if you want to find out a bit more about the venue and prices etc... and whether it would be suitable.
Alternatively you can have a look at community centres. I've found this on the council website and it's a list of all the halls in the area which you might be able to use. What you could do is draft an email about what you want to do and when and then send it around to all the halls you would like to use and then wait for a reply. Alternatively you could just give them a call and explain over the phone, it's completely up to you. Here are the links:

I hope that helps and let us know how you get on. If you need any help thinking up an email just get in touch and we can help you out :-)

It is great to see you've added a diary entry to your idea and it was really interesting to read. I look forward to your next one.
I'm really sorry to hear about the school not being interested, especially as they seemed so keen at first. What changed their mind? Have you looked in the halls I gave you the links to at all? Have you received any response? I can speak to someone I know at Middlesex university and see if there are any university rooms you might be able to use at a low cost?
You mentioned that not all members of your group were committed to the talent show idea? Maybe you could change your idea slightly, work on building up your campaign and then work towards putting on a talent show later on in the year or next year when you may have more backing.
I really love the idea of creating a life-sized man to take out into the community and ask the two questions to people. Maybe you could put this on film and actually film yourselves doing it. Once you've created the film, you could show it to your school so they can see what you actually want to do and you might even be able to put on an assembly about it and show everyone else. You never know this might muster up the support you need to put on your talent show?
If you are thinking of making a film, here's a site with a really good video explaining how to make a film. http://www.junction49.co.uk/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=131&page=1#Item_1
With a film, you could also enter it into a film festival, there's one coming up in June and this would really skyrocket your campaign http://www.junction49.co.uk/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=133&page=1#Item_1
These are just a few ideas to keep the creative juices flowing :-)
I look forward to hearing about how taking the 'man' out into the community worked.

I have read your campaigns idea and I think it sounds really exciting. I am currently studying at university and am at home, based in North London from the end of July for three weeks in August. If you need any help around this time I would be really interested to meet up and bounce ideas around or get involved/run errands etc.
I look forward to hearing from you,

Ive produced some anti violence educational material and wondered if you wanted to use it to cover your topics? Its being used by schools and youth groups and its having a good impact. Ive just joined up to junction49 and am trying to make contact with people who work towards similar goals. Mine is to reduce violence via education. If your interested please look at our website and get in touch. www.sav-ed.co.uk.
Thanks
