  • Avatar Vikki Elliott 10:14, 04 March 2009 Hi Carley,

Thanks for posting your beach clean on Junction49! A couple of other Junction49ers have also planned similar projects in the past, check them out:

    http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/1343/the_big_beach_clean_2008/

Also, a fellow Northumbria student planned an environmental clear up with the NSCA, so perhaps you could send the organisers a message to see if they would like to get involved with your project:

As you are a student at Northumbria University, you can access up to £750 to turn your idea to benefit the community into reality. You can also have access to your very own Volunteer Support Officer (Yvette) who can help you with training and support, as well as accessing the funding, to get your project up and running. Check out:

You mentioned that you would like 20 people to travel to the beach...have you already recruited these volunteers?

You can use this Junction49 page as your project planning tool, creating actions and posting in your diary so that everyone can see what the plans for the day are. You can invite your volunteers to become fans or even co-owners of this idea through the email address search.

Also, you could post some before and after pictures to the idea so that the difference you make is visible to all.

  • Avatar Carley 21:46, 04 March 2009 I have recruited a few people, and the rest I hope to recruit through the NSCA newsletter.
Thanks for the heads up on other people who may be interested, and thanks for all the extra help.

    Cheers

  • Avatar Yvette Hawkins 11:09, 23 April 2009 Hi Carley

Hows it going? I just wanted to ask if you have any photos of the beach clean to upload them on here and also write a diary entry so we can hear about how it all went.

A while ago I also mentioned about the Junction49 celebration event in London. You can nominate your project for this and possibly even receive an award. See below for further details. You've worked so hard on your project I'd really like the rest of the world to see how much effort and good you're doing so please nominate it :-)

Here at Junction49, we want to celebrate all of the hardwork and effort you’ve put into your volunteering projects and on 16th June we are putting on a Party at the Proud Galleries in Camden, London.

At the party, awards are going to be given out to you guys, but to have a shot at winning we need to hear about your projects and the fantastic difference that you are making in your community.

The awards you could win are:

Best J49er (best user of the website)
    Most innovative project
    Best ongoing project
    Best one-off project

If you would like to be nominated for an award and be in with a chance of winning a fantastic prize, all you need to do is fill out a diary entry on your ideas page on Junction49.co.uk, which answers the following 3 questions:
    1. What was your project about?
    2. How do you think it made a difference to the community or the wider world?
    3. What did you get out of/like about volunteering on this project?
You have until 5pm on 4th June 2009 to fill this out and then we will shortlist all nominations. Go on, fill it out, you know you deserve a chance of winning!

Good Luck and hopefully see you on 16th June.

    Yvette

  • Avatar Carley 13:22, 28 May 2009 The project was ‘Beach Clean’, and a group of nine volunteers went to Cullercoats beach to pick up litter and tidy the area.
It will have hopefully have made a difference to the area by making it look more pleasant, and hopefully it would have mead a difference to the safety of the wildlife that resided in the area. We got a mention in papers, and worked in conjunction with North Tyneside council, to help them with their ‘Big Spring Clean’.
I really enjoyed this project, because it got volunteers out into the community, to do something beneficial for people, wildlife and the environment. Through it my organisational skills improved, and also gave me the chance to work as part of a team.

Thanks to all who turned up to make it a success

  • Avatar Sarah 15:18, 28 May 2009 J49 Staff Hi Carley,

Thanks for updating Junction49 about your project. You can add it to your diaries section too if you like?

I've been to Cullercoats beach many a time when I was younger as my Dad used to live around here, so he was quite pleased when I told him about this project. Congrats on completing a wonderful project :-)
