What it's all about

We are planning to screen an Indian blockbuster movie “Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge”
(The Brave heart will take the bride) and raise the money for the charity organisation UNICEF. All the staff and students at Middlesex University are invited and welcome to attend this charity event. Before the movie starts we will play 2-3 short clips about the various work undertaken by Unicef in order to raise awareness about this charity. The attendees will be encouraged to take part in the sweep stake draw, where the minimum donation will be £1. The winner of the sweep stake draw will receive a prize of a dinner for 4 at a local Indian Restaurant.

We are supporting the UNICEF and thought that we should do more and decided to organise an event which will raise awareness of their fantastic work to the other people.

What's needed to make it a reality

- funding for licence
- marketing of the event though the leaflets and posters

  • Avatar rsolomon 11:30, 24 April 2009 Hi Izabela,

Thanks for posting your idea on Junction49. Sounds like a really great way of fundraising for a good cause. DDLJ's definitely a Bollywood classic, so hopefully lots of students will be coming along to the screening!

Junction49 is where young people can develop their own ideas for positive change in the community, and students like yourself who wish to develop a voluntary project to benefit the community can access up to £200 to turn an idea into a reality, as long as you raise double the amount. Middlesex is one of 12 Universities who are taking part in the scheme where you can access funding, training and support from your Volunteer Support Officer (Rich) to help you get your project up and running. Check out: http://www.junction49.co.uk/university/52/middlesex_university/

Nathan at Bath Uni recently posted an idea for fundraising film screenings. They already have a film license so perhaps you could get in touch to find out about the practicalities of obtaining one: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/1993/film_fundraisers/

May also be worth checking out Lizzy from Kingston’s ‘Invisible Children’ screening idea: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/1954/invisible_children/

    Good luck!
