What it's all about
I would like to raise money for the CJD illness by encouraging people to get together on a specified occasion and complete as many laps as possible on a cycle circuit, being sponsored per lap by friends and family.
My aunt died from CJD when she was only 26 years old, though we found out about the illness before she began to visibly suffer, there was nothing we could do to help her. We looked after her as best we could as her condition deteriorated until she finally passed away when I was 8.
I would like to organise an event such as this to raise people's awareness of CJD and hopefully rasie a fairly significant cash amount to aid research into this illness and into the search for a cure.
What's needed to make it a reality
As many participants and sponsors as possible

I think that this is a great idea. Keep updating us on how things are developing. And feel free to ask for as much help as you need.

Great to see you've added this idea to Junction49. I think it is such a lovely idea and clearly means a lot to you. It's great to see you are persevering with the idea even though it sounds like people haven't always been too helpful. Is your local leisure centre at all interested?
This website is all about cycling and might be able to help you out with events or just give you some ideas.

I was thinking if you are having trouble organising something in your area, could you always do a mass cycling event/sponsored cycle at your school/college? Maybe if you have a big field or something like that where you could have the sponsored cycle and if it's in the summer could always have a barbecue and various other things going on for the spectators. (this would also be an extra means of making some money for the chosen charity)
I hear you've also had some trouble getting fundraising materials to help you with your event, so I'll have a go to see if I can get a response from and get you the tshirts and stickers etc... that they have said are available to people organising their own events.
I hope some of that is useful, but please let us know how we can do anything more to help and how the search for a venue to hold the event goes.
