What it's all about

I am looking to create an event in London focusing on sustainable fashion raising awareness and money for Fair trade. I would also like to use this as an opportunity to bring creative people and the community together, getting people involved. I would like to put on a fashion event, including a show, live music and even sales of sustainable clothing.

jojo coates has asked for help on this idea - Find out how you can help

What's needed to make it a reality

I need a team of people who would be interested in getting involved, photographers, events co ordinators, pr, models, designers, most of all people who are interested in making the idea become a reality. I need to find a venue, find organizations which would be interested in supporting the show and get everything sorted.

Welcome to Junction49! I'm Sarah from the Junction49 helpdesk, here to support you in turning your idea into reality.

This event sounds great and seems to be a very popular theme at the moment on Junction49. You might want to check out some of these ideas and you can comment on their walls if you want to see if you can share advice about how to go about setting up this project.

Another Junction49er recently organised a fashion show at the Dogstar in Brixton which was a huge success and you can read a bit about it here: http://www.junction49.co.uk/blog/50/rock_the_runway/

She contacted friends, advertised on gumtree in order to find models, designers and performers etc... Advertising on Gumtree might be a really good idea, or even contacting London based universities e.g. London School of Fashion, Chelsea and other places. Students I'm sure will be more than happy to have the opportunity to show off their creations and you might find that performance based societies could get involved in the acts.

As you're putting the fashion show to raise awareness for Fairtrade you could contact the Fairtrade Foundation and see if there's anything they can do to help: http://www.fairtrade.org.uk/

TRAID is another organisation you could contact as they're all about textiles and fashion and would probably be able to provide you with clothes for the fashion show. You may even find that they can help you get volunteers too.

If you need funding for your idea too then there are a couple of places that you could apply to:

    • O2 Think Big http://www.o2thinkbig.co.uk/
Awards of up to £2500 for your project, given in stages, for projects to improve the community.

    • Live UnLtd http://www.liveunltd.com/
Live UnLtd will give up to £2,000 of funding and all the support needed to turn a great idea into a reality. Currently says open to 16-18 yr olds on their website, but it's meant to be opening up to 11-25 yr olds which should have happened already so may be worth emailing them to check.

I hope that helps to get you started. If you need any support and advice then do let us know, we're always more than happy to help.

I look forward to hearing about how this idea develops.

    Good Luck!
    Sarah
