What it's all about
This is a update of my idea i have found the autism one really hard to get off the ground so i have theirfor changed it.The project i would like to achieve is a buddy system for aspergers it still aims at getting autistic people back in to the real world but it will be different, and heres how my non propfit no registered organization will be run for teen youths if i can get any to sign up,they will be crb checked and they will get a personal email adress, they will then spend 1 hour a week talking to someone with autism or someone with a problem ,which at the end of the month i will then reward then with a small prize like a gif voucher or chocolate for giving up their time,i relise this may sound stupid or confusing to you but i have a clear vision of it in my mind,i am their for asking the junction 49 team to please comment on this and to give me their opinion on what they think, their will also be a small website coming soon and i now have my offical name
What's needed to make it a reality
I would not no how to achive my idea ,where to start how to go about it,howver helping people is something i woud like to do and always have wanted to

Welcome to Junction49. I'm Sarah from the Junction49 Helpdesk, here to support you in turning your idea into reality.
This sounds like a really interesting idea and definitely one which is very achievable. A good place to look or get in contact before you get started is the 'National Autism Society' as they run social groups across the country and you may be able to see if they have any specific advice about setting up this kind of group, based on their experience and expertise. http://www.autism.org.uk/Get-involved/Volunteer/Volunteer-in-a-social-group.aspx
In terms of getting started generally though, I've just got a few questions which may help you start thinking about how to go about getting this idea set up.
Do you know what age range you want to target? You mention 'kids' so was wondering if you were thinking of setting up a group for young children, or perhaps young people in their teens? It would probably be better to start with the one age range and then if you wanted to run something for people of other ages you could expand at a later date.
Perhaps the best way to start is to first find a venue where you could run it. If you're at school or college you could see if there's a room there you could use when you first start and then once you've got funding or you have established exactly what you want to do you can always move to a different location.
Following on the lines from the National Autistic Society you could start the group as being a social one where each week there is a different theme e.g. one week you could have a guest speaker talking on a certain topic and the next could be an activity or a trip out. You could also ask the members when you first start about what they would like or find most useful.
You may need some funding to cover the cost of getting everything set up, providing refreshments and activities etc...
• O2 Think Big http://www.o2thinkbig.co.uk/
Awards of up to £2500 for your project, given in stages, for projects to improve the community.
• Live UnLtd http://www.liveunltd.com/
Live UnLtd will give up to £2,000 of funding and all the support needed to turn a great idea into a reality
• The Jack Petchey Foundation http://www.jackpetcheyfoundation.org.uk/?looking-for-funding/individual-grants-for-volunteering.html
The Jack Petchey Foundation wants to support young people who have to raise funds in order to be involved in a voluntary project or to participate in events that will benefit others in society. The maximum grant offered will be £300 per person, and they will only fund up to 50% of the actual cost of your project.
I hope that helps a bit to get you thinking about what to do next. If you have any questions or want to discuss anything with us, then do just let me know. I'm here to help.
Good Luck!

Setting up a website sounds like a great idea and it's definitely something you can start doing straightaway as there are loads of free sites out there which you can use for creating your own website. Another Junction49er, Mandy did just that and you can check it out by looking at her ideas page here: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/2549/health_passport_online/
To create your own you can use this website: http://www.wix.com/
I hope that helps.
If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask :-)

Its Margareet from the Junction49 helpdesk. I think your idea is great and setting up a website would be a wonderful way of raising awareness about autism. I see that there has not been any recent activity on the idea so i am checking in to say keep at it and stay encouraged. We @ junction49 are here to help your idea become a reality and and im sure it will be very soon.
Remember if you need any help, were just a click away! All the best :)

It's great to hear that you've been pulling stuff together for your project, definitely the best way to start. I have to say I'm not very good at coming up with names, but what has helped in the past is doing a bit of a brainstorm and writing down all the words related to what it is you're doing and what you're hoping to achieve. This should then hopefully spark up some potential names. A good idea would be to maybe get some friends and family involved too, as then you can bounce ideas off eachother which always really helps.
Let us know how you get on.

You will be pleased to know that you do not have to register as a charity to run your idea, offer support or apply for funding :). in addition there isn't any legal stuff that i can think of except for a CRB check, depending on what social group of people you will be working with. Yourself and any volunteers working on your project may need CRBchecks if your working with vunerable and young people.
All the information you will need is here: http://www.crb.gov.uk/ If you have any questions please ask.

I hope the idea is coming along well. In relation to providing mentoring advice for your service users you may wish to check out mentorwell.com. The site gives you tips and information on mentoring and you may find it useful for the buddy system you wish to create. It may help you in providing tailored support for those with aspergers/autism.
I hope it’s of use.
I am sure the other 49er's would love to hear more about your idea. Why not keep us up to date with a diary entry or pictures.

Sorry to hear that you've had problems getting going with this idea. Having read your updated idea above, e-mentoring sounds like a good idea. There's a really good website which you could use to facilitate this without having to set up individual email addresses. It's also a good way for you to be able to track everything. You can take a look at it here: http://mentorwell.com/index.php
It talks about charging for charities and businesses, but you could get in contact with them to see what they might be able to do for you. If this is a route you then want to go down, you could include this in any funding bids e.g. if you wanted to apply to O2 Think Big.
I hope that helps.
Let me know if there are other areas where you're struggling and we can work together to come up with some solutions.

How are things? How is the project coming along. We'd love to hear from you. Sarah suggested you may be interested in the following idea. Its called Autism don't panic and has received funding from Live unltd. You could get in contact with the person behind this idea to see if they can share some advice on setting up a similar thing in their area.
Visit the following link to viewthe idea.

Great to hear from you, just give us a shout if there's anything we can help with. Great to hear you're involved with other charities - you'lll have to fill us in or share what you've learnt with other J49ers.

That sounds great what you're doing - I bet they really appreciate your help and it sounds like you're helping them more than just the gardening by keeping them company.
A lovely project!
