What it's all about
Into days society teenagers are seen as being problems, they were the ones who got the blame for the summer riots and im sure they will get the blame for a lot of other things, has anyone ever thought maybe theirs a soloution and kids arent to blame, sometimes people are just misunderstood,as i belive is the case in school many kids/teens leave school without a qualification becuase they are pushed to one side, seen as having behaviour problems, when really all they need is some guidance, some understandin, something to live for,i propose to do that .Hope fully with help i can get some leaflets together ,create a website and maybe a short mentoring programme with the help of volunteers ,that way i can help others to have a future

Great to see you've got another idea on the site. This sounds like a really easy and effective way to raise money for charity. Is it the National Osteoporosis Society that you're raising money for?
You say that you've already been around local charity shops to purchase some goods. Where you are planning on selling them? Is it through people you know or perhaps holding a stall somewhere?
You mention that you''re also looking for all other kinds of fundraising ideas - well I've got a few which you might be interested in. Ravi, one of our helpdesk volunteers is putting on a fundraiser tomorrow to raise money for Junction49 by selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts (there's a special scheme that Krispy Kreme run for charity fundraisers). You can check out his idea here: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/2824/raise_some_dough/
For other fundraising ideas, you can check out our resources section here if you like: http://www.junction49.co.uk/resources/. This has some 'How to Guides' for putting on different projects and in the near future we're hoping to add a general fundraising guide too.
I hope that helps.
Let us know as always what support /advice you need and we'll be happy to help :-)
Best of luck,

I just found out about this great competition which is being run where you could win £20,000 for your project and all you need to do is post it on this website - www.thestake.co.uk and get people to vote for the idea. The 20 ideas with the most votes or stakes will be shortlisted and then 6 will be given funding and support from some top mentors. If you go for it, let us know and we'll help promote it via Twitter and Facebook. I know you've got lots of different ideas, so thought this might be a great opportunity.

Speaking to CAMHS and Connexions is a really good idea. You can also check out great sites such as www.thesite.org.uk and http://www.beatbullying.org/index.html as they both have lots of resources on confidence, bullying and a lot more. Beatbullying also runs it's own peer mentoring service called Cyber Mentors where young people can mentor other young people online who are affected by bullying. It might be quite an interesting thing to check out. You can find out more about that here: http://cybermentors.org.uk/
Hope that helps.

That sounds really good. Do you have some drama experience yourself? If not you could recruit someone with drama experience to help you with this.
Also you might be interested in this idea: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/1834/dramajam_youth_for_youth_dramatic_arts_outreach/
They work with groups of young people and it may be that you could do something together in your area perhaps? They're based in central London but you could see if there's anything they could help with to get something going around where you live as they've been running their project for a few years so may have some really good hints and tips.

Great to hear that the project is progressing. Are we able to check out your website at all?
Really good to hear that you've managed to get some leaflets from useful local organisations. Creating a business plan or a project plan for what you want to achieve is definitely a really good idea and will help to keep the project focused throughout. If you want us to take a look over anything for you, just let me know.
Also, you might be interesting in this project from Sunderland - they've set up a website to provide support to young people and it may be worth checking out to see if they can give you any ideas: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/2885/h_e_l_p_websiite/
All sounding great so far.

I thought that maybe why you hadn't given the website address, but thought I'd better check just in case.
It's completely it up to you, you don't need to show me anything it's just if you want any support or like you say someone else's opinion.
Really pleased to hear it's progressing well.
Best of luck,

That's great to hear you've already got started. Bet it was hard work today with all the wind. I'm glad you were able to fill in the survey and thank you very much for mentioning Junction49. I hope you manage to get an email back from them with some helpful tips - they started following us on Twitter and the women behind it are very passionate about mental health.
In terms of improving your self-confidence I think you're doing it already through this project, by sending out emails and completing tasks like helping with someone's garden. You may not realise it yet, but as the weeks and months go on you'll be able to reflect and see the difference in yourself hopefully :-)

Yes you should be able to upload them to your idea by clicking on the 'Photo's' tab above, or you can send me an email to help@junction49.co.uk
If you like, I can write a blog about what you've been doing and post some of your photos in their too to spread the word about your project.
I definitely agree with always thinking about the bigger picture :-) Do you write a diary at all? If that's something that interests you you could write things down and then you can reflect back on it to see how your self-confidence develops.

I think what you said at the start of your message about not aiming to be anything, but just being happy with you are is a brilliant one and so true. As long as you're happy that's what counts :-) Great to hear that you've now donated your money to charity and starting to think about new projects. With your event being over and 'Done and Dusted', if you like we can send off for an AQA for being a Project Leader if you like. All you need to do is fill out the survey here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/doneanddusted and I'll do all the rest.
Katie's idea is great and you should read all her diary entries about the different things that she's done. They're thoroughly entertaining and she has loads of ideas about different things that you can do. To set up in your area would be fairly simple and actually if you read the book it will give you lots of ideas. I still have it, so don't go out and buy it. I've just put it in the post to you, so you should get it next week. The only condition of having it is that you have to pass it on to someone else once you've finished reading it :-) Let me know when it gets to you.

I have a feeling the book may have only been set out today so you should get it by the end of the week hopefully. I also found another book when I was going through a drawer earlier which I've sent on, as I think you'd find it really useful for your project. It's called 'Change the World for a Fiver.'
Thank you for completing the survey, I'll send off an AQA for you before the end of the month :-)
I look forward to hearing your new plans for the project after you've had a break - I reckon it'll be very exciting :-0
Sarah
P.S. Will try and post your photos up now. Report Abuse
Thank you, I'm very excited and think it'll be a great new home for Junction49.
Really pleased to hear the book arrived ok. I hope you like it.

Good to hear you've been busy and great to hear you've expressed an interest in becoming a Cybermentor. I think you would be awesome. That's a shame the training is really far away, but I think once you've done the training all the volunteering you do is online. You'll have to let me know how it goes if you do decide to do it.

Really pleased you got the AQA certificate. I've been amazed at how quick they've been to come through recently.
That's great that you're looking into other mentoring schemes, I think you'd be very good. Have you found many in your area?

I just wanted to let you know about the vInspired awards which is another way for you to receive recognition for the volunteering that you do. If you sign up to www.vinspired.com you can record the hours that you spend volunteering which will of course include the time you spend on Junction49 supporting others through the comments that you write. If you go on now you will also be able to record the number of hours volunteering you've done recently including all the time you spent on Echo your Voice at the start of the year.
There are three different certificates you can work towards - the v10, v50 and v100 (all relate to the number of hours that you've done)
If you've got any questions, just ask :-)

No need to apologise at all, I wasn't expecting you to have done anything in the last couple of weeks. Glad to hear you enjoyed the book. I didn't expect the ending either and found it really sad, but the book is very inspiring. No need to send it back to me, feel free to keep passing it on to anyone who you think would enjoy it, that way it keeps 'Paying it Forward'. :-)
I'm sorry to hear that you feel that Echo your Voice is having a few problems - it sounded like you had lots of different ideas to explore about how to take it forward whether it be through doing random acts of kindness or setting up a support group. Do you want to jot down different ideas you have for taking this forward either on here or email help@junction49.co.uk and I'll have a think about the best resources to point you to.
I hope that's ok.
