What it's all about

Low self-esteem and lack of motivation is common within young people, and it may even cost someone their life. Not only do insecurities bring one person down, but the reason that the majority of people bully others is because of their own insecurities. I hope to inspire and help young people to understand that they are important and to believe in themselves by speaking out and talking to others.

What's needed to make it a reality

I need other young people to come up with ideas and create things - whether it's writing poetry or music, making videos, or handing out leaflets. Any support or advice would be lovely :)

  • Avatar Marty Davis 12:35, 23 January 2012 Hey elsie great idea ,im marty a fellow junction 49er i was reading through your idea and think it has great potential,the idea im trying to set up is of a simular nature trying to in prove self confidence with kids in schools,but im looking at kids with behaiviour problems or kids who just cant cope in general,i really do like your idea its just a thought but maybe you should get together some leaflets and send them round shcools in your area,or you could email organizations that do simular work and see what they say ,Sarah here at junction 49 gave me a book its all about how one boy created an ided to change the world,im half way through it at the moment but when im done with it ill be more then happy to send it to you if you want,good luck with the idea if you need any help just send me messege and ill see what i can do Report Abuse

    Welcome to Junction49. I'm Sarah from the Junction49 team here to support you in getting your idea up and running. This is such a wonderful idea and I've already checked out your website too. I love that the ultimate goal of what you're doing is to make everyone happier.

    You might be really interested in this movement called 'Action for Happiness' which aims to create a happier society for everyone. http://www.actionforhappiness.org/ Their site is full of lots of tips about what people can do to feel happier.

    You should also check out Denise's idea too as I think there is definitely some crossover and between your ideas you might be able to help eachother out: http://www.junction49.co.uk/idea/2900/mind_2_help_uk/

    I love all of the actions that you have added and it looks like you've already got a number of other young people helping you out with the campaign which is brilliant. I'm going to try and blog about it in the next week on our homepage to get more attention for you.

    If you need any funding at all for your idea to cover the cost of creating leaflets, videos etc... or perhaps even putting on a big event where you could showcase all the great things that young people do, there are a few places that you could apply to:

    - O2 Think Big http://www.o2thinkbig.co.uk/
    Awards of up to £2500 for your project, given in stages, for projects to improve the community. This is open to 13-25 year olds. In the first round you can apply for £300 and then after you've completed that part of the project you might get invited to apply for £2500.

    - Live UnLtd http://www.liveunltd.com/
    Live UnLtd will give up to £5,000 of funding and all the support needed to turn a great idea into a reality. Open to 11-21 yr olds.

    Glad to hear you've had a lot of hits and interest. Hopefully my tweet helped, I got a lot of retweets from people. I had a look at your blog this morning and if you're thinking of applying to o2 Think Big, you've definitely got a chance, they're pretty good at funding people and there are lots of Junction49ers who have been successful.

    I just wanted to let you know about the vInspired awards which is another way for you to receive recognition for the volunteering that you do. If you sign up to www.vinspired.com you can record the hours that you spend volunteering including all the time you've spent responding to people's emails and comments to your blog.

    There are three different certificates you can work towards - the v10, v50 and v100 (all relate to the number of hours that you've done)
